US government to provide Kshs 800 million in funding towards control of the locusts infestation in the Eastern Africa affected countries.
Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state made the announcements on Tuesday saying the funds will go to kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
The United nations is also providing 8 million dollars in the additional funding to support the regional locusts control operations in the affected nations . The UN aid comes after Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) warned that the locusts could ravage more countries in the region and threatens the livelihood of many people.
Before the locusts invasion, many people in the region were experiencing food insecurity and the shortage would escalate even more if proper control is not employed.
